Airborne Museum ‘Hartenstein’

The Airborne Museum ‘Hartenstein’ shows the course of events during the Battle of Arnhem. This took place in September 1944 in the area between Ede and Arnhem and formed part of the Operation Market Garden. British, American and Polish airborne troops were to take control of the river bridges from the Belgian border to Arnhem.

The museum is situated in the former ‘Hartenstein’ Hotel. During the Battle of Arnhem, this hotel served as the headquarters of the British First Airborne division, commanded by Major-General Roy Urquhart. The hotel was largely destroyed during the Second World War, but was later restored. The airborne Museum has occupied the building since 1980.
