Forced labourers in the district of Euskirchen – A special exhibition by the district of Euskirchen in cooperation with F.A. Heinen, Dietrich Schubert and Vogelsang IP gemeinnützige GmbH.
Until a good 10 years ago, the regional history of forced labour was a little-noticed topic in the northern Eifel. It was only through the activities and publications of regional researchers that the fate of many prisoners of war and civilian forced labourers became visible and also the extent of forced labour in the region became clear.
The special exhibition deals both with the areas in which forced labourers were employed in agriculture and forestry or in industry, as well as with their often catastrophic living conditions and individual fates, up to and including their murder.
But also the present state of the sites of forced labour camps, whose history has often been forgotten, is documented in large-format photos.
