Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Introduction
The region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, in northern Germany, is located along the Baltic Sea coast and boasts a number of splendid natural parks. The region is also particularly rich with history since, during WWII, it constituted an important site for German aircraft production. The development centre of Peenemünde was placed here, where the V1 and V2 rockets were constructed, and therefore it was heavily bombed by the Allied Air Force on several occasions. After the war, the Historical Technical Museum was built on the grounds of the Peenemünde. There you can learn the whole story of the research area of Peenemünde and discover the reasons why and the circumstances under which the V1 and V2 were developed. You can also walk beside an original V1 and V2, historical aeroplanes and helicopters, and board a small rocket speedboat.
