You will start your day after meeting your guide at the foot of the Arc de Triumph with a stop near the flame of the unknown soldier. Your guide will evoke the almost daily ceremonies taking place under the Arc de Triumph and the day of 26 August 1944, which saw General de Gaulle walk on the Champs-Elysees on the occasion of the liberation of the City of Paris.

Going down the avenue, evoking Paris under the occupation through the life of its population will plunge you into the darkest hours that the capital has experienced.

Stop by the statue of General de Gaulle near the presidential palace of the Elysée before arriving at Place de la Concorde. From there you will take the direction of the Place Vendôme through the gallery of the Jeu de Paume (Rose Valland, one of the characters of the American movie ‘The Monuments Men’ and one of the most discreet heroines of the French resistance) and an adjacent street bearing the stigmata of the battles fought for the liberation of Paris.

Short stop in front of the Hotel Meurice (headquarters of the Gross Paris Command) then the Ritz Hotel, which hosted Hermann Göring, before opening the doors of its bar to Ernest Hemingway.

You will then go to the Place de l’Opèra, one of the seats of the ‘Kommandatur’, before taking the direction of the Louvre, location of one of the largest art rescue operations of the second World War.

With the Seine crossed, and having admired its miraculously intact bridges (despite the order given to destroy them) you will then head to the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. You will find yourself in front of the Préfécture of Police, ground zero of the Battle of Paris.

With your guide, you will head for the Senate and the Luxembourg Garden. This green space born under the leadership of Catherine and Marie de Medici was occupied by the German Air Force during the Second World War. Your guide will talk about the passive defence shelters present nearby before heading to the Pantheon, where four members of the French resistance now rest.

Continue your tour to Place Denfert-Rochereau across from Avenue du General Leclerc, which evokes the preparations for the insurrection led in part by Colonel Rol-Tanguy from the temporary underground headquarters (visits start in August 2019).

You will end this day with a stop at the national Hotel des Invalides to appreciate the spaces dedicated to the history of the Second World War and General de Gaulle. (Optional stop)
