Sicily 3 days WWII Tour
Day 1

Catania and the WWII landing Museum

Pick-up in the morning by driver and guide to reach the city centre of Catania, the second largest city of the island. There you will visit Palazzo Biscari, marvellous witness of the late baroque of the south east of Sicily, used in the fall of 1943 as the headquarter of the British General Bernard Law Montgomery. Continue with a walk through the baroque city centre to see the Cathedral and the colourful fish market. After lunch break, visit the WWII landing Museum in Catania and the Commonwealth Cemetery, before returning to the hotel.

Day 2

Enna and Agira

Pick-up in the morning by driver and guide to reach Enna (the highest province capital of Italy – 945mt a.s.l.), headquarter of Italian General Alfredo Guzzoni during the Allied landing. From the Castello Lombardia we will enjoy beautiful views over Sicily which will make you understand why they chose this spot. We will then continue in direction of the old farmer town of Agira. In this typical small town, you will discover a lot of surprises, like the oldest stone Aron Ha Kodesh of Europe, which survived by miracle the Spanish inquisition, and therefore has 500 years of history. Just out of town we will visit the Canadian War Cemetery. Once in the “real Sicily” a taste of local pastry will certainly be a must. On the way back, we will stop by the German WWII Cemetery located close to Catania, and you will be surprised to discover who is buried here! Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 3

Siracusa and Cassibile

Pick-up in the morning by driver and guide to reach Siracusa, the Greek capital of Sicily. We will take a walk through the beautiful baroque town and visit the Cathedral, the air-raid shelter, the Saint Lucy church with the famous Caravaggio painting, the Arethusa spring, and the Miqweh. Our journey will continue southwards to the area of San Michele/ Cassibile. We will have lunch in a restaurant located where on September 8th, 1943, the Armistice between the Allies and the Italian Army was undersigned. After lunch we will start to drive back, passing through several bunkers and the famous “Ponte Primosole” bridge, the hardest battle area of General Montgomery in Sicily. Return.
